The Microsoft Student Partners (MSP) is an organization of University students interested in careers in technology who are willing to help others learn about Microsoft technology.

The Microsoft Student Partner Program is a worldwide initiative to sponsor students who are interested in technology. The program mainly focuses on improving students skills for employability, fostering a strong student-2-student network and improved information flow between Microsoft and student communities. The members of the community are called Microsoft Student Partners (MSP).

The program encourages MSPs to learn about the lastest Microsoft Technologies and to propogate that knowledge to the academic community in various engineering colleges in their city or locality. MSPs also organize various city wide events to educate the masses about Microsoft Technologies.
As of July 06, 2007, there was a total number of 1445 registered Student Partners globally, representing 64 regions/countries.

Microsoft does offer a stipend to its student partners, although various software and hardware packages are commonly distributed for testing and promotional purposes. Student Partners are also given access to MSDN Premium Subscriptions free of cost to support their promotional activities. There are also cases where Microsoft invites its Student Partners for national conferences and events.

The Microsoft Student Partner Programme recognises the top minds from around the world who are passionate about technology. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to develop real-world skills to help you succeed in your future career, to help others learn about the technology of today and tomorrow, and to connect with other like-minded students, all whilst having a ton of fun along the way.

The Microsoft Student Partner programme consists of the brightest and most innovative student developers and technology enthusiasts from universities around the world.

The ‘ideal candidate’ for an MSP would be a passionate and enthusiast individual who wants to learn about new tools and technologies. You would need to have a whole range of skills including excellent time management, organisation and communication skills to ensure that you could host a successful campus launch event.

An MSP should be comfortable and confident presenting in front of large audiences of both students and faculty members. You may even be asked to present in front of your fellow MSPs at an event. General business and sales skills come in very handy in order to allow you to articulate your ideas effectively when presenting.

MSPs are sociable, friendly and approachable individuals who like to meet new people. You will require the ability work as a team as well as use your own initiative. In summary, MSPs are innovative and creative students who are extremely passionate about technology.
Why be an MSP?

The MSP Programme is designed to help you get the most out of Microsoft tools and technologies, develop your skills and give you a head start in the ‘real world’ once you graduate and enter the IT industry.

Being an MSP is a privileged and honoured status for any student. You get a whole host of opportunities and benefits from being part of the MSP programme including:
• Global portal access to the latest news, actions, event, worldwide forums, resources and photo gallery;
• MSDN Universal Subscription;
• Technical events hosted by Microsoft in Reading, London and Cambridge – travel expenses funded, Industry and Microsoft speakers;
• Mentor Programme with Community Leaders & Microsoft Most Valued Professionals;
• Software giveaways, betas, resource kits etc;
• Promotional items for on campus use – posters, flyers, campus launch kits etc;
• Star Award winners receive Tech-Ed passes (ticket, flights & accommodation);
• Glass Award and reference letter for every student at close of the programme each year.

You'll be encouraged to share your passion and knowledge and to undertake a huge range of fun activities on-campus. In return, you'll get access to numerous benefits - including Microsoft software, reference materials and training as well as privileged information about future career opportunities.

The activities can range from handing out leaflets and putting up posters around campus to hosting a campus launch event on new Microsoft tool or technology. Each activity carries a set number of points and you will be awarded points based on the quality of the evidence you submit with the activity.

Throughout the year, you will receive massive amounts of training and support from Microsoft. These can be in the form of online training, resources and materials. Also, there will be the opportunity to attend multiple MSP events at different locations where you will learn about the new tools and technologies, meet Microsoft employees and even get some really cool surprises!
